The energy obtained can power city power grids, industrial facilities, or satisfy private electricity needs, while the thermal energy can serve as a source of centralized heating or heating of private premises.
TECHNOLOGY
Biogas as an energy source
Biogas is a valuable source of heat and electricity, as well as organic fertilizers. It is obtained from agricultural and livestock waste. Anaerobic fermentation allows for the processing of various organic wastes from agriculture, the food industry and feed production.
The gas produced can be used in INNIO Jenbacher plants to generate energy. Reliable and proven INNIO Jenbacher solutions ensure stable electricity generation from biogas.
HOW IT WORKS
Biogas consists of methane and carbon dioxide. Its composition varies: 45–87% methane and 13–55% CO₂, and also contains impurities of hydrogen and hydrogen sulfide. After purification from CO₂, biomethane is formed – a complete analogue of natural gas in terms of characteristics, differing only in origin.
The biogas production process includes three stages: preparation of organic raw materials, fermentation and processing of residues. First, the material is collected in a special pit, where it is sterilized to destroy harmful microbes, and then fed into a bioreactor. The biogas that is formed is accumulated in a tank, which ensures continuous supply of gas regardless of fluctuations in production. The gas is then fed into a gas piston unit to generate electrical and thermal energy.
ADVANTAGES
- Additional income from waste – processing of manure, liquid manure and biological waste allows you to obtain electricity and at the same time solve the problem of waste disposal.
- Reliability and efficiency – INNIO Jenbacher units are successfully operating in different countries, demonstrating stability even on complex gas mixtures.
- Ecology – reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
- High efficiency – local cogeneration provides up to 47% electrical efficiency and up to 90% together with thermal energy.
- High-quality fertilizer – the residual substrate is used as a high-quality organic fertilizer with neutralized acidity, preserved nutrients and no odor. The digester sludge can be used on your own farm or sold.
